Seven year old Destiny Shelford-Green is gaining confidence on the football field with regular lessons funded by the Halberg Activity Fund.

The Puhinui School student, who has cerebral palsy, loves attending weekly lessons through the Papatoetoe Adapted Football Programme where she has built confidence, developed sporting skills and made new friends.

“Adapted football is really cool,” says Destiny.

“I get to play it with my friends.”

Destiny is always willing to give anything a go, especially when it comes to sport. She’s a keen swimmer and also attends swimming lessons through the Halberg Activity Fund.

Halberg Disability Sport Adviser, Maia Lewis, who helped establish the adapted football programme, found Destiny a pleasure to work with.

“Destiny is one of the most determined and cheerful physically disabled young people I know,” says Maia.

“She is always keen to get involved in a wide range of sports and activities and through her own determination, she inspires other young people with physical disabilities to be active.”
